Legal Division
Introduction The Legal Division (BUU) has been established in 1990 along with the establishment of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living and responsible to provide professional legal advice to the Ministry and agencies under its supervision in accordance to the Federal Constitution and related legislations.
The legal officers placed in the Ministry were cadre officers from Attorney General's Chambers which act either as Federal Counsel, Senior Federal Counsel or Deputy Public Prosecutor. Hence the legal Officers are subject to any direction issued by Attorney General, Public Prosecutor and any other direction issued by Attorney General's Chambers from time to time. Objective
To provide legal advice to the Ministry in accordance to the Federal Constitution and related legislations by concerning the government policies and public interest.
Conduct prosecution and civil proceedings and other matters responsible for in accordance to the Federal Constitution and related legislations.
Function
Provide legal advice regarding matters referred by any Division or Agency after received documents with complete information.
Draft or vet legal documents and instruments such as agreements, MOU and letter of undertaking.
To peruse Investigation Paper received from Enforcement Division.
Conduct prosecution in the Court for offences commited under the Acts supervised by the Ministry.
Represent the Ministry in all civil proceedings.
Vet or draft principal legislation and subsidiary legislation.
